The technician who collects the data is the same person who analyses and reports. In this way we give continuity to the process, ensuring that we do not lose any of the vital information necessary to produce an accurate and relevant machine condition report.
Monitek only employs technicians who have significant prior experience in industrial maintenance. This helps to ensure that our reports are relevant and practical to the customer. It also helps with the vital communications in both directions, and aids the integration of our technician into the customer’s team.
In our high quality monitoring service, we only employ direct analysis wherein the technican visually checks and compares every spectrum with the carefully selected reference. We do not employ automatic spectral masking techniques which are notoriously inaccurate.
Monitek uses true order analysis, not frequency analysis for machines which vary in speed during their normal operation. We use a tachometer to simultaneously measure machine speed, which signal is then used by our software to generate an order spectrum. This allows us to accurately monitor machines which have high rate variable speed, particularly mining shovels and draglines. A side benefit of this approach is that we do not need to take the machine out of production to monitor most drives.
In order to deliver our service with the desired high quality, accuracy and efficiency we have developed our own software tools and where necessary, our own hardware. Although this is not our core business, we use this approach whenever there is no alternative economic and commercially available tool. We have used this approach over the entire 15 year life of the company.
